It may be hard to believe, but forgiveness is not something you do for the other person. It is something you do for yourself. Nine times out of ten the other person is not affected by your anger, but you are. Studies show that when we hold onto anger, we are weakening ourselves. We weaken our muscles and our immune systems as well by holding onto anger. Bruce Lipton says that “holding onto anger is like ingesting a little bit of poison each day”. We always think that forgiveness is something we do for others but it is actually for our own benefit. By forgiving we allow our bodies to become strong again.
Speaking of ourselves, the most important person in the world to forgive is yourself. For what things do you need to forgive yourself, you might ask? For not honoring yourself; not seeing your value or your true potential; not sharing the gifts of yourself with others; not loving yourself exactly as you are right now in this present moment; for putting your life on hold; for not realizing what a true miracle you are. There's no one else like you in the entire Universe. Your special brand of love, kindness, generosity, joy and happiness are unique. No one can bring those things to the world except you. Give yourself and others the gift of forgiveness and watch the miracles unfold from within and without.
